Some economists say Fed isn't telling the economic truth - Sep. 19, 2003: "Tuesday's Fed statement -- which was much gloomier about the economy than many economists have been lately -- seemed to some an indication the Fed was willing to stretch the truth to keep traders buying bonds"

I'm not sure if this is a real problem, but I think it's a good example of how the Fed is less powerful than many believe. They have a finger on the see-saw balancing prices with economic growth, but they have nothing near complete control.
