Inflation adjusted gas prices

This is an interesting illustration of the fact that measuring prices in real dollars can be quite misleading. My only caution, is that the effect is not quite as stark as this shows because of the fact that gas prices also effect inflation. The CPI#'s he uses to make his adjustments purposefully exclude energy prices to account for that, but oil prices are a major cost driver in almost every non-energy item we purchase in this country. When you go to the store, everything on the shelves arrived by truck.
